When the Gas Runs Out: What the Solstice Energy Shutdown Means for Regional Victoria

In August 2025, Solstice Energy announced it will cut off gas supply to ten regional Victorian towns by the end of 2026. This decision means more than 1,100 households and businesses will need to move away from gas and look at electric alternatives for heating, hot water, and cooking. The towns affected are Robinvale, Swan Hill, Kerang, Nathalia, Marong, Maldon, Heathcote, Terang, Lakes Entrance and Orbost.

The Challenge

Losing gas supply will create challenges for many families and businesses:

Fortunately, the Victorian Government is offering rebates through the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program and other initiatives to make switching to electricity more affordable.
